I’m excited to announce the opening of Lolinda steakhouse featuring a bull mural by yours truly. The mural is 31.5 x 7.5 feet in the main floor of the restaurant. Lolinda (formerly Medjool) is in San Francisco’s mural-filled Mission district. I gained knowledge and supplies from the nearby Precita Eyes Muralists while working on this piece. The restaurant owners Deborah Blum and Adriano Paganini (of Beretta and Starbelly fame) asked for something rough and rustic – like something painted on the side of a barn. It was a challenge for me to break out of my usual detailed style, so I looked to inspiration from Paul Klee’s late works, Picasso’s bull lithographs, and cave paintings. We prepared the wall with textured stucco, and I further textured the piece using scrapers and a Dremel rotary tool. This is my first mural project; I had a lot of fun and hope to do more.
Lolinda opens this Monday August 13, located at 2518 Mission St (@ 21st St). Hope to see you there!
