Mr. Potato Friend

Mr. Potato Friend is a portrait booth with modular body parts. A pair of friends selects from various torsos, legs, bodies, and hats, and attaches them to the booth. Then they stick their heads and hands through the appropriate openings and get their picture taken. It’s a playful riff on those mermaid paintings you stick your head through at theme parks and boardwalks. Modular in design, new body parts can always be created to play with.

Mr. Potato Friend was created for the carnival-themed Alchemy event at the California Modern Art Museum, 25 April 2009. It also appeared at the 2009 Treasure Island Music Festival and Black Rock Arts Foundation Artumnal, and is available for event rentals. It takes up about 6 x 3′. Concept by Marc Scheff and Shawn Feeney, created by Shawn Feeney. More pictures are available on flickr here.
